About Louise Dawson

I am originally from Lancashire in England and death was not something that was talked about, just something that happened, to be quickly brushed over. I recall my own grandfather dying of bowel cancer when I was a young child. No-one was able to talk about it, even though I remember him being at his most peaceful and kindest. I recall being only aged 7 but realising this was a time of transition, and although ‘excitement’ isn’t the right word, I remember feeling ‘he was having an experience and I was part of it’.

As I grew up and began my own career, I always returned to the value of recognising life changes and transitions and incorporated this essence into my work as much as possible.

I’ve worked for many years as a professional advocate with people in healthcare and disability settings, in legal contexts, and in the community to help them express what is important to them at critical points in their lives. My work has been always around ensuring a person’s voice is at the centre of decision-making.

I feel that it is a very special privilege to be by a persons side supporting them at their ultimate transition and helping them choose and express how to bring their story to a close.

As well as being a trained Celebrant (ICPC) I hold a range of qualifications in the social sciences (BA Hons, MRes, Ph.D) and as a qualified Mediator (MII).

Evening Star Celebrancy
takes an affirming and inclusive approach to diversity, including neurodiversity and the LGBTQIA community.
